La société des spectacles - Ulla Von Brandenbourg & Farah Atassi

In Atassi's paintings, the curtain is open, yet the dancers are motionless. Time has stopped. The curtain opens not to the spectacle of choreography, but to a spectacle of forms. A form among other forms, the figure seems no more than an element in an authentic still life. The same spectator is invited to enter Ulla von Brandenburg's environments, and to walk through the color and monumental fabric paintings that the artist majestically deploys in space. "La société des spectacles" reflects on the use of the stage, spectacle and artifice, and all the ambiguities this raises in artistic practices that are very different, but both rooted in a modernist heritage.
