This exhibition is the first of its kind dedicated to the American artist Dana Schutz in France, and features some forty paintings, twenty drawings and prints, and 6 sculptures, several of which have never before been shown to the public. A virtuoso of colour, Dana Schutz has developed over the years a powerful narrative and a sense of dramatic tension that is revealed in her complex compositions, often in very large formats. The exhibition explores the themes that run through her work: the gritty, tense sensations of the intimate, the artist at work, the construction of the self and society, and the tension between the individual and the group in large-scale crowd scenes.
