Since 2020, the Art Explora Foundation and the Cité Internationale des Arts have partnered to develop an unprecedented residency program for artists and researchers from around the world. In this exhibition, painting —and art in general— constantly weave light and shadow together. Thus, chiaroscuro (clair-obscur) is more than just a painting technique from the past; it is a visual language that bridges the centuries. It constantly reinvents itself in its revelation of the darker side of humanity and the world, and it lends its tonality to an entire dimension of artistic creation as both a narrative technique and a philosophical principle. It expresses the materiality of light and the shadow areas of our subconscious, transforming our sense of the visible and the invisible.
