The Amis invite you to discover Suzanne Valadon’s studio, at the heart of Montmartre. What is known today as the Musée de Montmartre, was, at the turn of the 20th century, an artist residence, home to many key painters and sculptors of the time, including Maurice Utrillo, André Utter and Suzanne Valadon, who lived there for more than 15 years. After Utter’s death in 1948, the place was abandonned until 2010, when it was completely reconstituted by Hubert Le Gall.

Organized in close collaboration with the art historian Barbara Paca and Frank Walter’s family, Moon Voyage is the first dedicated presentation of Walter’s work in Paris. It takes its title from a painting in Walter’s Milky Way Galaxy series, a body of work that expresses the artist’s interest in outer space, extraterrestrial life, and the mysteries of the universe. A group of works from this series—which have rarely before been exhibited together—forms one of several focal points of this show.

The Amis invite you to discover a solo exhibition by the emblematic and daring artist Suzanne Valadon. On the fringes of the dominant trends of her time, cubism and abstract art, Suzanne Valadon ardently defended the need to paint reality. She placed the nude, both female and male, at the centre of her work, representing the body without artifice or voyeurism. From her beginnings as the favourite model of the whole of Montmartre, to her early artistic recognition by her peers and critics, Suzanne Valadon embraced the Parisian fervour of the turn of the century, its cafes, its bals musettes and cabarets, with an artistic and intellectual approach that revealed the changes in society.
