From David to Delacroix, Cézanne to Matisse, Ellsworth Kelly to Gina Pane and Hélène Delprat, ‘Souvenirs de jeunesse’ traces two centuries of the history of the Beaux-Arts de Paris through the eyes of its students. More than 260 works and documents highlight the diversity of backgrounds and talents that have attended the school. The exhibition explores the transformations in art education from the academic rigour of David to the upheavals of May 68. It also looks at the place of women and foreigners who attended the school, and at changes in teaching practices. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the history of art education.
