After graduating in sculpture from the Lucerne School of Applied Arts in 1974, Hannah Villiger (d. 1997) turned to photography as her preferred medium from the early 1980s. Armed with a 35mm camera, then a Polaroid, she sought, through her enlarged photographs presented in dynamic ensembles, to reveal the intrinsic properties of a body, an anonymised material shaped by mechanical recording.
