The first retrospective of this scale to be devoted to Julia Margaret Cameron in Paris, this exhibition reveals around a hundred photographs, from her early experiments to figurative historical, literary or allegorical compositions, as well as an impressive gallery of portraits of her contemporaries. Her highly personal approach to photographic technique, which was much criticised in her day, from blurring to various errors, has established itself as the hallmark of a pioneering style, incorporating imperfection and accident in innovative ways. Original and timeless, the work, produced in barely a decade, between 1864 and 1875, is one of the finest illustrations of the epic spirit of early photography.
