The artist Claude Rutault (1941-2022) never ceased to confront painting and to question the link between the decor, the place, and the pictorial itself. A year after his departure, the Louvre Museum, the Musée d'Orsay and the Centre Georges Pompidou join forces to pay tribute to him and show the contemporary relevance of his work and his gaze. At the entrance of the Egyptian Antiquities Department, the Louvre exhibits a work in dialogue with the portraits of mummies of the Fayum, thus questioning, according to the conception of the history of painting that the artist developed, the origin of the painting, the "first painter".
