MR //Encounter with Nicolas Bureau

Les amis invite you to meet Nicolas Bureau, winner of the Mission Recherche 2022 grant. In his first theoretical book On the Spiritual in Art (1912), Kandinsky drew an analogy between the "Primitives" and the new art. He defines the inner necessity, both subjective, since it depends on the personality of the artist, of a period, and objective, since it contains "the pure, eternal artistic" common to all people, to all periods. This desire to assert the universal character of art is manifested in a draft preface for the Almanach Der Blaue Reiter with Franz Marc. This intention is clearly apparent in the plurality of periods and origins of the works reproduced in the book. This visit will be followed by a tour of the permanent collections in the company of the researcher.
