This exhibition looks back at the unclassifiable career of one of the most important French contemporary painters, Gérard Garouste (born 1946). Alongside 120 major paintings, often of very large format, the exhibition also presents many of his installations, sculptures and graphic works. These are all pieces that deliberately play on the deformations, mutilations and recompositions of the figure, the history of art and the great narratives (mythological, literary, religious). The artist seeks to question and overturn certainties in the mode of a game itself in perpetual reinvention.
