This year, the Dapper Foundation was given free reins to present the works of Barthélémy Toguo in the Quai Branly museum in Paris. This monographic exhibition presents some 50 works of the Cameroonian artist, today recognised around the world. Drawings, watercolours, sculptures, photos, installations or even performances, the artist uses many media to interrogate the future of our planet and open the beholder’s eye. He depicts human figures in pain or fills a wooden boat with wax ballots to comment on the great upheavals of the world today: wars, power abuses, immigration, famin, dangers… Christiane Falgayrettes-Leveau offers a new gaze on Toguo’s works, by placing them side to side with traditional African artworks.
