Born in France, raised in Germany and living in Great Britain, Caroline Achaintre studied at the Kunsthochschule in Halle then at the Chelsea College of Art and Design and at Goldsmiths University in London. Inspired at the same time by the European carnival, Primitivism, German Expressionism or even science fiction, the work of Caroline Achaintre evokes on the one hand the possible coexistence of several characters within the same being and on the other hand the tensions generated by duality. Her works have the particularity of being difficult to define. Abstract and figurative at the same time, they reveal anthropomorphic forms and bear witness to a particular interest in animism. They are part of several public collections: CAPC, Bordeaux / FR; Tate Britain, London; Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris, Paris; National Center for Plastic Arts, Paris; FRAC Aquitaine, Bordeaux, and FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims.
