The exhibition Bridget Riley: Point of Departure explores how the study of Georges Seurat’s work provided a foundational impulse in the development of Bridget Riley’s artistic practice. Functioning both as a beginning and a deviation, the “point of departure” refers to the moment in 1959 when Riley reproduced Seurat’s Le Pont de Courbevoie from a printed reproduction, learning in the process how to place and juxtapose colors to create optical vibration effects—a principle that has continued to inform her practice to this day.
Bridget Riley’s work Ascent was acquired by the Amis on the occasion of the Dîner des Amis 2025.
