Pierre Soulages' work on paper, although rarely exhibited, is a key element of his artistic career. From 1946 onwards, he used walnut stain paints, marking his uniqueness in abstraction. The exhibition presents 130 works from the 1940s to the early 2000s, including 25 previously unseen pieces, thanks to exceptional loans from the Soulages Museum. These works, long kept in his studio, demonstrate his consistency and freedom with this medium and reveal an intimate and decisive practice at the heart of Soulages' artistic language.
