The exhibition highlights the richness and diversity of George Condo’s practice through three main avenues: his ongoing dialogue with art history, which he revisits and subverts; his exploration of the human figure, characterized by fragmentation and psychological intensity; and finally, his engagement with abstraction, which runs throughout his work and blurs the boundaries between figuration and abstraction.

General Exhibition traces forty years of contemporary art at the Fondation Cartier through a collection shaped over the course of its programming. By reactivating the social, cultural, and architectural heritage of its building and its engagement with the city, the exhibition sketches an alternative map of contemporary art and inaugurates a renewed approach to exhibition-making through its new architectural layout designed by Jean Nouvel.
