Thanks to exceptional loans from the Centre Pompidou, the Musée de l'Orangerie as well as other French and foreign museums (Rouen, Dijon, Milan), the Musée Zadkine brings forward the artistic friendship never before explored between the sculptor Ossip Zadkine and the painter Amedeo Modigliani. Having met in Montparnasse in the 1910s, Zadkine and Modigliani shared the common dream of being an artist. Although their fruitful friendship ended during the First World War, their shared memories remained present throughout their career as evidenced by the portrait of “Modi” that Zadkine kept throughout his life. The Musée Zadkine invites us to delve into the intimacy of these artists and understand the construction of the Modigliani myth through Zadkine's gaze.
