Chantal Akerman, Travelling

The Jeu de Paume is organizing an exceptional new exhibition devoted to the career and work of Belgian filmmaker, artist and writer Chantal Akerman (Brussels 1950 - Paris 2015). From her beginnings in Brussels to her final installations, the exhibition will follow a rich path of images and archives that are intended to be questioned, explained and passed on in order to reveal a dense artistic practice. Following the various stages of the filmmaker's career, this exhibition will retrace the years and places that Chantal Akerman has travelled to and filmed, embracing different media forms that include cinema, television, writing and installations. The exhibition will recall an intense, surprising life, from the burlesque to the tragic, both musical and painful. From this journey to the desert, Chantal Akerman's post- or pre-apocalyptic work has never been so radically and poetically close to our times.
