The Centre Pompidou and the MO Museum of Vilnius, have brought together a group of works testifying to the vitality and singularity of Lithuanian contemporary art from the 1960s to the present day. From paintings to drawings, installations and video art, the exhibition presents new acquisitions by artists of several generations whose artistic production has been recognized as being of national importance. It brings together an extraordinary body of work by major historical figures, who faced the challenges of Soviet rule or exile, alongside artists from the most contemporary Lithuanian art scene, who since Lithuania's return to independence in 1990 have enjoyed international recognition. This collection seeks to reveal some of the histories and narratives of the European states formerly occupied by the Soviet Union.
