Nearly one hundred works from private and public collections are brought together to (re)discover one of the first post-modern movements based on the questioning of abstraction and the return to the figure. Curated by Patrick Mauriès, the exhibition highlights the artists who participated in this movement, such as the Frenchman Christian Bérard (1902-1949), the Russians Pavel Tchelitchew (1898-1957), Eugène (1899-1972) and Leonid Berman (1898-1976) and the Dutchman Kristians Tonny (1907-1977).

Born in New York, Paul Strand (1890-1976) began studying photography with Lewis Hine, famous for his contribution to social photography, and later befriended Alfred Stieglitz, photographer and promoter of modern art in the United States. Strand succeeded in merging these two trends and continued to explore the photographic medium until he laid the foundations of modern photography and paved the way for what would later be called straight photography. His knowledge of contemporary art, derived from his friendships with artists and art theorists, his intuition and his spirit of synthesis led him to create a body of work that is timeless.
