With nearly 200 works - sculptures, engravings, drawings and paintings - the exhibition chronologically retraces Germaine Richier's artistic trajectory and sheds light on the major themes that nourish her sculptural practice (the human, the animal, myths, etc.). Trained in the tradition of Auguste Rodin and Antoine Bourdelle, Germaine Richier asserted herself as profoundly original and radical in little more than 25 years, from the 1930s to her early death in 1959: a link between Rodin and the first César in the history of modern sculpture.

Laure Tiberghien's work is part of a trend of experimentation that can be traced back to the beginning of the medium's history to underline its inventive character, but which has nothing to do with any fascination for technology as such. It is well known that in this field technology is only as interesting as what it allows us to say. The first inventors, starting from hypotheses that were each more audacious than the last, achieved surprising combinations and results that have often remained unequalled on the plastic level.

Nearly one hundred works from private and public collections are brought together to (re)discover one of the first post-modern movements based on the questioning of abstraction and the return to the figure. Curated by Patrick Mauriès, the exhibition highlights the artists who participated in this movement, such as the Frenchman Christian Bérard (1902-1949), the Russians Pavel Tchelitchew (1898-1957), Eugène (1899-1972) and Leonid Berman (1898-1976) and the Dutchman Kristians Tonny (1907-1977).
