Born in 1981 in Zug, Switzerland, Lukas Hoffmann lives and works in Berlin. His pictures emerge as isolated, unrelated images. They do not follow ideas or concepts; rather, each image bears witness to a quest - the quest for a correspondence between the order of the image and the visible world, the quest for a relationship for which there are no rules, but which must be found for each image in a new way. Hybrid, mixed forms are omnipresent in Hoffmann's photographs: natural and architectural spaces are intertwined. The artist's great interest in the particularities of both urban and rural landscapes, an appetite for the shape of the earth, ever more invasive vegetation, the organisation of architectural structures or their slow decay, can be detected.
