The Franco-Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez lived and worked in Paris from 1960 until his death. He is a major player in kinetic and optical art, a movement that encourages "an awareness of the instability of reality". His work established him as one of the key thinkers in the field of colour in the 20th century. Carlos Cruz-Diez' visual art explores the perception of colour as an autonomous reality evolving in space and time, without form or support, in a perpetual present.
