This exhibition on the art and culture of the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) in Germany is the first comprehensive overview of this artistic movement in France. In addition to painting and photography, the project brings together architecture, design, film, theatre, literature and music.

Photographer August Sander's masterpiece Men of the 20th Century establishes the motif of a cross-section through a society as a "show within a show" as a structural principle, with the two perspectives working together to open up a broad overview of German art of the late 1920s.
