18:30: Sabine Weiss
The exhibition staged in the Galerie de Photographies features nearly 80 vintage photographs by Sabine Weiss, mostly unpublished, on the theme of the street. Dating from 1945 to 1960, these come from a group purchased by the Musée National d’Art Moderne and a recent donation by the photographer, who decided to entrust a large selection of her works to the Centre Pompidou. Acquisition and donation thanks to the commitee GAP of the Friends of the Centre Pompidou.
17:00 Recent acquisitions by the Department of Prints and Drawings
Presentation of recent acquisitions by the Department of Prints and Drawings is an important, regular feature on the programme of the Musée National d’Art Moderne. The current exhibition offers an opportunity to view a selection of some 150 modern and contemporary works on paper by more than 50 artists, acquired by the Centre Pompidou since 2011. As diverse as it is eclectic, and very clearly inspired by Matisse’s own designs for chasubles for the same chapel, the exhibition opens with Henri Matisse’s ample preparatory study for the stained glass at the Vence chapel and a large collage by contemporary artist Pierre Buraglio. Acquisitions thanks to the International Circle of the Friends of the Centre Pompidou.
